February 19-22

*Our Valentine’s Day party was a lot of fun! The kids really enjoyed decorating cookies. Click on the link below to see the finished products!

*We are still collecting Box Tops. At your convenience, please send in any that you may have at home.  Thank you!

*I will not be at school Tuesday, February 19 (tomorrow). Mrs. Hecht will be our substitute. I will be back on Wednesday.

*We will have early release this Thursday, February 21st. School is dismissed at 1:25.  Lunch WILL be served.

*I’m seeing a lot of improvements with regard to the children’s editing skillschecking punctuation, capitalization, etc. Thank you for working with them at home on this skill as they prepare for their weekly spelling test.  Capitalization and punctuation are not very exciting to a first grader, so this can be a challenge to turn into a habit of checking over work. Thanks again for helping!

Weekly Update 2/11-2/15

Hello families!  Here are this week's updates...

*We are still collecting Box Tops. At your convenience, please send in any that you may have at home.  Thank you!

*Our Valentine’s Day party is this Thursday, from 2:45-3:30.  Here is a link to the party sign-up:

*Subway Day is this Friday! If you ordered Subway for your child, they will have that for lunch on Friday. Please remember that Subway lunches do not come with a drink.  I would suggest that children bring their water bottles and/or a juice box on this day.

*There is no school on Monday, February 18 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

*We started a new unit of study on the United States last week.  The four questions that will guide our study are:
*Who are good citizens from the past and present that have shown courage, honesty, responsibility, and respect?
*Why do we celebrate national holidays?
*What are the national symbols that represent the United States?
*How do we make decisions for our country and community?

*Our current author study is focused on Cynthia Rylant.  She is the author of many books, most notably the Henry and Mudge series and Poppleton series. If you visit the public library, Cynthia Rylant books would be a wonderful choice for your child to check-out and read.  She has a wide variety of text levels. Below is a link to a Henry and Mudge book:
