Weekly Update 9/9-9/13

Hello, everyone!

Our second week of school was filled with learning new classroom routines, Math and Reading assessments, and BOOT CAMP! First grade boot camp is a fun way to kick off the year, learning about what it takes to be a good learner and thinker, how we can solve problems independently, and use tools to help us learn.  By the end of boot camp, the class of 2031 will be 100% ready to take on 1st grade!

Here are this week’s announcements

*We are going on a field trip!  We will attend Meridian High School’s Annual FFA AgExpo. All first graders in our district attend.  Our scheduled time is Tuesday, September 24th.   We will leave Willow Creek around 11:30 am, and will return approximately at 2:15 pm.  Information and permission slips for our trip will be sent home on Monday.  If you are available, we would love chaperones! 😊

*I have received volunteer forms, and will have a volunteer schedule for the year prepared to send home by next Monday.  I know that classroom volunteering is not an option for everyone, but I do appreciate those that can. Thank you!

*If you have any BoxTops, please send them on in with your child.  Thank you!

*Willow Creek’s Back to School Night has been scheduled  It is on Thursday, September 12th. Unfortunately, my husband and I had already purchased tickets for an event on this evening, so Back to School for our class will be Thursday, September 19th, from 4:30-5:15.  If you aren’t able to make it, no worries! I will post the powerpoint presentation and a video to our blog so you won’t miss out. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.  I am ALWAYS available to answer your questions, though, so email anytime! 😊

Weekly Update 9/2-9/6

Hello, everyone!

What a wonderful first week of first grade we had! It was fun, busy, and exhausting all rolled into one. Our class has already received countless compliments from the Specials teachers and other faculty. I am proud of them!

Here are this week’s announcements

*On Tuesday, your child will bring home a volunteer form in their O.W.L. folder. If you are interested in volunteering in our class this year, please fill out the form and have your child return it to my classroom mailbox by Friday, September 6th.  Thank you!

*Our school collects Box Tops. Box tops are a FREE way to help our school earn money. Please read the information that your child will bring home about this program, and help out if you can!

*Willow Creek’s Back to School Night has been scheduled  It is on Thursday, September 12th. Unfortunately, my husband and I have already purchased tickets for an event on this evening, so Back to School for our class will be Thursday, September 19th, from 4:30-5:15.  If you aren’t able to make it, no worries! I will post the powerpoint presentation and a video to our blog so you won’t miss out. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.  I am ALWAYS available to answer your questions, though, so email anytime! 😊

*A new month means a new school lunch menu. Click on the link below for this month’s school lunch menu. You can go to this site every month to print out the menu. We follow the "traditional" menu.

*Book orders are due Tuesday, September 3rd!  The more we order, the more free books we get for our classroom library! There are many more books to choose from than just the book order form I sent home.  Go on-line to see all the books available! 😊

*I received many parent letters last week.  I’ve had a chance to read all of them. Thank you so much for taking some time out to write to me about your child. These letters are so informative, and help me build a better relationship with your child. I appreciate it!  Parent letters are due Tuesday, September 3rd.

Weekly Update 8/26-8/30

Hello, everyone!

Our first day of first grade starts tomorrow! I’m really looking forward to getting this year under way.  My hope is that your child will have a great first grade year.

If you haven’t already, please make sure to subscribe to our blog, so that you will receive my weekly blog posts directly to your email.  Every week there will be important announcements.  About 50% of families have subscribed so far! That’s pretty good for the first day of school! 😊

Here are this week’s announcements

*School begins at 9:05. The playground will be open and staff supervisors will be out at 8:45. Please do not drop your child off before 8:45. There will be no adult supervision before this time.  I will be outside a little early tomorrow to show children where to line up each day. We line up outside by the primary playground, in front of the doors.

*Monday is an early release day.  School will be dismissed at 1:25.  Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home.  Also, please review with them which door they are to leave out of each day. The “back” doors are the doors right by our classroom that lead out to the primary playground. The front doors are the main doors of the building.

*For the first day of school, there is only one hot lunch choice:  Chicken Nuggets!  School lunch costs $2.50 for students, and $3.95 for adults.  If you would like to add money onto your child’s account, you may access their account on-line. Click on the link below, then scroll down to find more information about the Mypaymentsplus website.  If you think you might qualify for free/reduced lunch, click on the link below for more information about this program.

*Book orders are due Tuesday, September 3rd!

*Don’t forget about your parent homework! Parent letters are due Tuesday, September 3rd.

I hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Welcome Back to School!

Hello 1st grade families!

I am so glad you found me here at weareowls.net!
Each week, I will post an update about our class right here on this blog.  You can have this weekly update emailed to you by subscribing to the blog. Here are the directions on how to do that:

 1.  Enter your email in the box under the heading "Follow By Email".  It is in the right hand column of the blog.

2.  After you sign up there, you will be sent an email that will require you to confirm your subscription.  Sometimes it goes to your junk email, so check there if you don't see it in your inbox. Find that email.

3.Once you've found that email, click the link in the body of the email that will confirm your subscription.  Once you've done that, you will automatically be sent all of my blog posts via your email.  I hope you will subscribe!

I thought you might be interested in accessing the district's calendar for the 2019-2020 school year.  Please click on the link below if you would like that for your records.

Of course, there will be plenty of other dates to know such as: parties, field trips, school performances, etc. As the year goes on, I will post important dates on the blog, and they will also come home on a weekly calendar that can be found in your child's home folder.

If you would like to see our daily specials and lunch schedule, take a look here:

I look forward to spending my 24th year of teaching with each one of your children!  I'm excited to get to know them and spend my days with them.  If you ever need to contact me with questions/concerns, anything at all, you can reach me via email or phone.  I check my email throughout the day. I will not likely answer the phone during learning time, but you can certainly leave a message.

Hello everyone!

This week is Camp Read-A-Lot!  We have many fun activities planned for this week.  Most of the announcements for this fun week have already been sent out, but here a couple of things to know

*I am looking for 2 volunteers who are willing to be field day escorts for our class on Wednesday, May 29 from 10:00-11:50. If you are interested in helping out, please email me!

* Our walking field trip to Heroes Park is this Wednesday, May 22. We are keeping a close eye on the weather. As of right now, the Wednesday weather prediction is cloudy.  Hopefully it will remain that way!

That’s it for this week!
