Weekly Update March 9-March 13

Welcome to March!

We have a lot happening over these next two weeks. Please read on and prepare to mark your calendar for some fun events.

*Subway forms were sent home last week. They are due this Wednesday, March 11th.

*Picture Day is Thursday, March 12th! We will take our class picture, and individual pictures are available as well. Picture information and payment envelopes were sent home last week. There are extras in the office if you need one.

*Read Week is coming upMarch 16-19! This is a fun week at Willow Creek where we celebrate reading and books.  Each day is a special dress-up day.  Please see the flyer below for information on each dress-up day. I cut off part of the wording on the flyer! For Thursday, it says bring a reading buddy from homethat means your child may bring a stuffie!

*Your child did not bring home a spelling list last Wednesday because this is spelling pre-assessment week.  This Wednesday, your child will bring home their LAST sight word unit list of the year (I can’t believe it!).  Please look for that in their folder.

*Don’t forgetWe are making a music video concert!  As part of our unit of the United States, we have learned a few patriotic songs.  We are going to make a video of us singing the songs on Thursday, March 12.  On this day, please have your child wear something red, white, and/or blue.  Please do not feel that you need to go out and buy something special for this.  A simple white t-shirt and jeans will be fine!

*And don’t forget this one either!  The kids are very excited! 😊 You are invited to attend our Learning Showcase on Wednesday, March 18, from 4:00-4:45. We are excited to share all of the things we have learned during our “Home Sweet Home” unit about the United States with you. The kids will show you the research project and non-fiction book they’ve written. And, you can quiz them on what they have learned about the United States!  This is an Open House style event, so you do not need to stay the entire 45 minutes. Just stop by any time between 4:00-4:45.

*Parent input forms were sent home last week. Please check your child’s folder for this paper. It gives you the chance to provide input on your child’s needs for an engaging 2nd grade classroom environment.  This form is due by March 31st.

*Mark your calendarspring break begins on Friday, March 20.  Children in grades K-8 do not have school on this day.  It is a teacher in-service day.  School resumes on Monday, March 30.

I haven’t been so good at keeping up with announcements since the New Year.  My goal is to pick up with weekly updates, beginning now! So, here are this week’s announcements

*On Friday, Angie Olszewski (you may know her as Hudson O.’s mom), made an author’s visit to our class! She read her book to us, and answered our many, many questions about what it's like to be a published author. If you are still interested in purchasing her book for your child, please send in a check.  I will get the payment to her, and she will sign a copy of the book. Cost is $13 for paperback, and $18 for hardcover.

Weekly Update January 27-January 31

Hello, everyone!

I am looking really forward to this week. We have been working hard on writing our small moment stories, and this week we will finish them and be ready to share with our friends and family soon!

Before I get to this week’s announcements, I wanted to share something with all of you. Last week I watched our O.W.L.s work in partnerships on a Math lesson, which is something we do quite regularly.  As I walked around to check in, I listened to the conversations they were having as they worked through their assignments. It made my teacher heart so happy. They were taking turns reading the problems, thinking up their “plan of attack” to solve each problem, helping each other through stuck points. I didn’t hear any arguing or off-task behavior. I want you to know your children work so hard and show such a strong work ethic. It makes me want to work even harder for them!  I am so proud of them!
Now for this week’s announcements

*Maybe some of you noticedI never sent home the book order formoopsy! I will send an order home on Tuesday.  Orders will be due by Monday, February 3rd.  Sorry about that! If you put in an online order already, I am sending it through now!

I guess that is all the announcements I have this week!  No news is good news, I suppose.  I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
