Weekly Update 8/27-8/31

Hello families!

We had a wonderful first few days of first grade! Our class is fantastic at listening and following directions.  One thing we all have in common is we LOVE a good book1 So that’s great news, because I have plenty of good books to share.

Please read on for this week’s important announcements

*We made self-portraits on Friday! Let me tell you, I think we have a room full of artists, for sure! Click on the link below to see our self-portraits and meet the Class of 2030!

*At Meet The Teacher Night, you should have received a manila envelope with information about our class. Included in this envelope was a homework assignment for parents! If you haven’t had a chance to read over the information in the envelope, I would encourage you to do so, because it will familiarize you with good to know information about our class! Also, the envelope has your homework assignment in it! Parent homework is due this Friday! On the assignment, I put the due date as September 1st, but it’s actually August 31st.  Sorry about that!

*In your child’s OWL folder on Monday, you will find a PTA membership form. It is certainly not required to join the PTA, but I would like to encourage everyone to consider joining. PTA provides our classroom with learning materials, pays for field trips, and much more! Some people don’t like to become members because they think they have to attend EVERY meeting.  These days, that is near impossible for just about everyone!  You aren’t obligated to attend meetings, but I would certainly encourage you to pop in to a few this year!  Please consider joining! Thank you!  You can follow Willowcreek PTA on Facebook.  Click the link below:

*In case your child hasn’t told you yet, I encourage kids to bring a water bottle to school. They keep it in their cubbie, and are welcome to go and get a sip of water as needed. I do request two things:  only fill the bottle with water, and please fill it at home each day before coming to school. You can imagine how crazy it would be if 23 kids were trying to fill up their bottles at the water fountain every morning! 😊

*Back to School Night is Thursday, September 6th.  You may choose from one of three 30 minute sessions to attend:
That’s it for this week Enjoy your week, everyone!

Welcome to First Grade!

Hello 1st grade families!

I am so glad you found me here at!
Each week, I will post an update about our class right here on this blog.  You can have this weekly update emailed to you by subscribing to the blog. Here are the directions on how to do that:

1.  Enter your email in the box under the heading "Follow Us By Email".  It is in the right hand column of the blog.
2.  After you sign up there, you will be sent an email that will require you to confirm your subscription.  Sometimes it goes to your junk email, so check there if you don't see it in your inbox.  Find that email.
3.Once you've found that email, click the link in the body of the email that will confirm your subscription.  Once you've done that, you will automatically be sent all of my blog posts via your email.  I hope you will subscribe!

I hope that you will be able to attend our Meet the Teacher Night at Willow Creek this Tuesday, from 5-6 pm.  During this time, you can bring your family by to see our classroom, meet me, and drop off school supplies. I look forward to seeing you there!

I thought you might be interested in accessing the district's calendar for the 2018-2019 school year, if you haven't already done so.
Please click on the link below if you would like that for your records.

Of course, there will be plenty of other dates to know such as: parties, monthly birthday celebrations, field trips, school performances, etc. As the year goes on, I will post important dates on the blog, and they will also come home on a weekly calendar that can be found in your child's home folder.

I look forward to spending my 23rd year of teaching with each one of your children!  I'm excited to get to know them and spend my days with them.  If you ever need to contact me with questions/concerns, anything at all, you can reach me via email or phone.  I check my email throughout the day. I will not likely answer the phone during teaching and learning time, but you can certainly leave a message.
