Weekly Update 9/30-10/4


Hello, everyone!

Here are this week’s announcements

*We had a lot of fun on our field trip to the AgExpo!  Click the link below to see about our field trip.


*Our big news this week is Jog-a-Thon is Wednesday, October 2nd!  This is our big fundraiser for the year, and I hope you will be able to participate.

*Our first spelling test is this Wednesday. All information about spelling and sight words came home on Wednesday, including your child’s special spelling word success bag!   

*Book order forms will be sent home on Monday. Book orders are due by Tuesday, September 8th.

*There is NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, October 7th. This is a collaboration planning day for teachers.




*Good readers can identify the problem and solution in a story.

*Good readers can create a story map that shows all of the elements to a story.

*Good readers use context clues to help them understand a story.

Weekly Update 9/23-9/27


Hello, everyone!

Our field trip is Tuesday afternoon! And we have a jog-a-thon information assembly on Tuesday morning, so exciting things are happening this week. Read on for this week’s announcements

* Our field trip is almost here!  It is Tuesday, September 24 from 11:30-2:15. Please remember to pack your child’s lunch for this day.  We will eat lunch in our classroom before we get on the bus to go to the field trip.

*Mark your calendarour annual Jog-a-Thon is October 2nd!  Important information about this annual fundraiser will be in your child’s O.W.L. folder on Monday.  Please take a look!

*I need help!  Look at these sad, holey pillows! These are comfy pillows for our reading spots in class, but they are out of commission until they are fixed. I can’t sew! Please email me if you are able to help repair them. Thank you in advance!



*On Wednesday, important information will be sent home about our sight word/spelling homework program. We will begin spelling/sight word instruction this week. Please read the information carefully.  Also, I will be sending home a fun gift that will help the kids study their words at home. Look for that on Wednesday as well! 😊

Weekly Update 9/16-9/20


Hello, everyone!

Here are this week’s announcements

*I have received everyone’s permission slips for our field trip! Thank you for being so prompt in returning those to me. Our field trip is Tuesday, September 24 from 11:30-2:15.

*Picture Day is TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH. Payment information was sent home last week. You can pick up payment information/envelopes in the office if you need to!

*Subway Day is Friday, Septmebr 20th!  If you ordered Subway for your child, then you get a day off from making their lunch! 😊

*Volunteer schedules are being sent home on Monday. Volunteering will begin next week!

*If you have any BoxTops, please send them on in with your child.  Thank you!

* Back to School for our class will be Thursday, September 19th, from 4:30-5:15.  If you aren’t able to make it, no worries! I will post the powerpoint presentation and a video to our blog so you won’t miss out. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

Weekly Update 9/9-9/13


Hello, everyone!

Our second week of school was filled with learning new classroom routines, Math and Reading assessments, and BOOT CAMP! First grade boot camp is a fun way to kick off the year, learning about what it takes to be a good learner and thinker, how we can solve problems independently, and use tools to help us learn.  By the end of boot camp, the class of 2031 will be 100% ready to take on 1st grade!

Here are this week’s announcements

*We are going on a field trip!  We will attend Meridian High School’s Annual FFA AgExpo. All first graders in our district attend.  Our scheduled time is Tuesday, September 24th.   We will leave Willow Creek around 11:30 am, and will return approximately at 2:15 pm.  Information and permission slips for our trip will be sent home on Monday.  If you are available, we would love chaperones! 😊

*I have received volunteer forms, and will have a volunteer schedule for the year prepared to send home by next Monday.  I know that classroom volunteering is not an option for everyone, but I do appreciate those that can. Thank you!

*If you have any BoxTops, please send them on in with your child.  Thank you!

Weekly Update 9/2-9/6


Hello, everyone!

What a wonderful first week of first grade we had! It was fun, busy, and exhausting all rolled into one. Our class has already received countless compliments from the Specials teachers and other faculty. I am proud of them!

Here are this week’s announcements

*On Tuesday, your child will bring home a volunteer form in their O.W.L. folder. If you are interested in volunteering in our class this year, please fill out the form and have your child return it to my classroom mailbox by Friday, September 6th.  Thank you!

*Our school collects Box Tops. Box tops are a FREE way to help our school earn money. Please read the information that your child will bring home about this program, and help out if you can!

*Willow Creek’s Back to School Night has been scheduled  It is on Thursday, September 12th. Unfortunately, my husband and I have already purchased tickets for an event on this evening, so Back to School for our class will be Thursday, September 19th, from 4:30-5:15.  If you aren’t able to make it, no worries! I will post the powerpoint presentation and a video to our blog so you won’t miss out. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.  I am ALWAYS available to answer your questions, though, so email anytime! 😊

*A new month means a new school lunch menu. Click on the link below for this month’s school lunch menu. You can go to this site every month to print out the menu. We follow the "traditional" menu.


*Book orders are due Tuesday, September 3rd!  The more we order, the more free books we get for our classroom library! There are many more books to choose from than just the book order form I sent home.  Go on-line to see all the books available! 😊

*I received many parent letters last week.  I’ve had a chance to read all of them. Thank you so much for taking some time out to write to me about your child. These letters are so informative, and help me build a better relationship with your child. I appreciate it!  Parent letters are due Tuesday, September 3rd.
